James Cameron Committed to Avatar 4 and 5, Despite Personal Challenges and Long Production Timeline

James Cameron has indicated he is not stepping away from Avatar 4 and 5, despite admitting the vast undertaking might be too challenging for him personally. While Avatar: The Way of Fire and Ash is set to hit cinemas this December, Cameron remains committed to seeing the entire saga through. In an interview with Empire Magazine, Cameron expressed his resolve, stating, “I’m feeling good, I’m ready to roll.” However, he also acknowledged that the extensive production timeline, potentially seven more years, raises questions about his completing it single-handedly. Despite this, he affirmed, “I ain’t gonna ditch it.” Should the workload become overwhelming, Cameron has a trusted collaborator in mind: Robert Rodriguez. Cameron holds Rodriguez in high regard as a director, specifically commending his adherence to the script during their collaboration on Battle Angel Alita. While Cameron appreciates Rodriguez’s skills, he has not yet named him as a direct replacement for directing the future Avatar installments. He acknowledged that by the age of 70, should he find himself unable to manage the demands of the projects, significant support will be necessary.
