Black Mages Legacy Animated Series in Production for Final Fantasy IX Universe

EuroVisual is producing an animated series set in the world of Final Fantasy IX, now officially titled Black Mages Legacy. EuroVisual confirmed the series is in production by listing it on their website, signaling that it has moved out of development with funding and a team in place. According to RPGSite, Season 1 is scheduled for release in 2028 and will consist of 10 episodes, each 22 minutes long. This is a change from the initially planned 13 episodes. The French studio secured approval from Square Enix to create Black Mages Legacy within the Final Fantasy IX universe independently, and acquired approximately 80% of Cyber Group Studios' assets. Designed for viewers aged 6-13, Black Mages Legacy centers on a group of Black Mages connected to Vivi, a main character from Final Fantasy IX. The story focuses on Vivi's children—Imel, Koln, Luciola, Thea, Fala, and Doc—as the last Black Mages across the four continents, living peacefully in Alexandria. But, as the synopsis hints, their peaceful days are numbered.
