Improved HDR Capabilities in Nintendo Switch 2 Update – Adjust Brightness and White Levels for Optimized Image Quality

Version 21.1.0, released in December 2025, delivers further enhancements, including improvements to the console’s HDR capabilities, as highlighted by the HDTestTV YouTube channel. While Nintendo has not emphasized the specifics, this update provides tangible benefits for users. Beyond general performance improvements, it addresses previous issues with HDR not functioning correctly on various screen models. Some users still report washed-out HDR even after the update, while others speculate that the issue lies with their TV setup. According to HDTestTV, two new options now allow Nintendo Switch 2 owners to optimize HDR: During brightness adjustment, pressing the Y button displays the specific maximum brightness value. Adjusting HDR white levels now defaults to a reduced console brightness setting for improved out-of-the-box image quality.

Enhancing HDR with HGig and Brightness Adjustments on Nintendo Switch 2 for Optimal Visual Experience

For optimal results, HDTestTV recommends enabling the HGig option (if available), then, on the second screen, moving the slider five clicks to the left after pressing Y, followed by further brightness adjustments as needed.
