New Horizons Upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2 with Enhanced Features and Voice Commands Launching January 15, 2026

Nintendo has announced an upgraded edition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch 2, featuring enhanced graphics and utilizing the new console’s features to their full potential. A major game update, version 3.0, will also be released for both Switch and Switch 2 players. This version of New Horizons is designed to take advantage of the updated hardware, offering significant enhancements showcased in a new trailer, which also previews the content of update 3.0. Both the upgraded edition and the 3.0 update are scheduled to launch on January 15, 2026. Players who already own New Horizons can upgrade to the Switch 2 edition via a paid update package, while title update 3.0 will be available free to all players. Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 version will feature sharper visuals and a higher resolution compared to the original Switch version. The primary enhancements focus on utilizing the Joy-Cons and the Switch microphone. Players will be able to use voice commands to call visitors over and find them quicker. Additionally, the maximum number of players who can join a session has been increased from eight to twelve on the Switch 2.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 3.0 – Introducing New Characters, LEGO Collaboration, and Hotel Management Feature

The free 3.0 update will introduce new functionality for Zelda and Splatoon Amiibos, allowing players to add four new characters and access new items and furniture styles. A LEGO collaboration will also bring special items to the game. Finally, the update will introduce a new hotel feature, where players manage the establishment, unlock items and clothing, and create personalized experiences for their animal guests.
