🤖: "Capcom Developers Shocked by Studio's Involvement in NVIDIA's DLSS 5
The recent GTC 2026 presentation revealed that NVIDIA's DLSS 5 might be under the control of game producers, but it seems there could be some miscommunication and potential resistance from developers at Ubisoft and Capcom, particularly Capcom teams who have historically been "anti-AI.

NVIDIA maintains that the new DLSS 5 is entirely under the control of game developers, but behind-the-scenes information suggests otherwise. While NVIDIA's CEO has publicly dismissed player criticisms, recent revelations indicate that Capcom and Ubisoft—the studios used as examples in NVIDIA’s presentation—were unaware the technology was to be unveiled. According to an investigation by Insider Gaming, programmers and artists from major publishers supporting DLSS 5, including Ubisoft and Capcom, were surprised by the GTC 2026 presentation. A Ubisoft producer, speaking anonymously, stated, "We found out at the same time as the audience," expressing astonishment at the communication between the companies. Despite this, Jun Takeuchi, an executive producer and corporate officer at Capcom, called DLSS 5 "another big move in boosting graphics quality," and Charlie Guillemot, co-CEO of Ubisoft's Vantage Studios, said DLSS 5 is "shaking up what they can guarantee players." Assassin's Creed Shadows reportedly leverages DLSS 5 in the creation of its game worlds.
NVIDIA's DLSS 5 Sparks Unsettling Concerns Among Capcom Developers Over AI Integration
While Ubisoft's reaction was one of surprise, the news caused a particularly strong reaction within Capcom. Capcom producers were surprised by their publisher's involvement in DLSS 5's announcement, as Capcom teams have historically maintained a strongly anti-AI stance during project development, including titles like Resident Evil Requiem and others yet to be announced. Some Capcom artists expressed concern over DLSS 5's impact on Grace in Resident Evil: Requiem. One artist noted that the technology altered Grace's appearance, giving her fuller lips and a rounder nose. According to the artist, "This tech can't tell the difference between lighting and colors. It also makes textures look better than they should, considering the game's animation style. The result? Everything feels creepily unnatural." Reportedly, Bethesda Game Studios also tested the tech, using it to adjust Starfield. Several Capcom team members fear this marketing announcement signals a drastic shift in the studio's vision, potentially opening doors to unwanted implementation of generative AI in future games.
