Archetype Entertainment, founded by former BioWare developers and Wizards of the Coast, has released a trailer showcasing the first gameplay footage of Exodus, a space RPG. Exodus aims to fill the void for fans awaiting the next Mass Effect title. The Archetype team includes James Ohlen, designer of Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, Mass Effect, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, along with Drew Karpyshyn, writer for the Mass Effect series. They plan to release regular short videos in the coming months highlighting combat, interactions, and environments, leading up to a full game presentation midyear. Exodus, a sci-fi action-adventure RPG, is set to launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in early 2027. In Exodus, players will step into the role of Jun Aslan, a scavenger turned traveler and humanity’s last hope against the Celestials. The first clip released on Wednesday features Jun alongside Tom and Elise in a fight near Lyonesse. According to the developers, positioning and trust in your companions are crucial: success means survival, while failure means becoming debris.

Another clip, set in a spatial tower in Lyonesse, slows the pace to showcase a mission amidst battle. The developers emphasize the importance of appreciating the game world: "Once you get used to the Railclaw, what may seem like an obstacle becomes part of how you navigate the world. It's a crucial piece in a Traveler's arsenal, allowing you to traverse hostile terrains and sometimes gain a better vantage point when things escalate." This space adventure features a railclaw for grappling hook action, with combat scenes emphasizing strategic positioning. In one scene, Jun uses the railclaw to zip around an orbiting tower’s exterior. The climax unfolds on planet Khonsu, where Jun walks toward an ancient Celestial shrine. These gameplay sequences offer a glimpse into the world of Exodus, which takes place in a distant future where humanity has made contact with aliens and established a colony on Alpha Centauri. Humanity has been in the Centauri cluster for forty thousand years, "far enough from Earth that there’s no going back." The game also features Biggs "The Bolt" Keil as a secondary villain.

The setting includes cities built on top of ruins and worlds terraformed to become habitable. As the studio describes it, "Piledup cities above ruins, remnants of wars no one remembers starting. Worlds forced to become habitable. Home, sweet home.” As Aslan, players will face dangers, hunt alien technology, and attempt to save humanity from extinction.
