The 2025 edition of The Game Awards held a special surprise for Star Wars fans, revealing Star Wars Galactic Racer, an arcade racing game set within the saga’s universe, after the announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. This genre choice marks a departure from the RPG and narrative adventure experiences that have become common for the franchise. The project is developed by Fuse Games, a studio founded and directed by Matt Webster, formerly the General Manager of Criterion Games, known for the Burnout series and the Need For Speed license acquisition. As stated by Matt Webster on Starwars.com, Galactic Racer distinguishes itself from realistic simulations with a focus on run-based, high-risk gameplay designed for adrenaline and quick decision-making. The game is set in a galaxy undergoing reconstruction after the fall of the Empire, where the Galactic League emerges: an illegal racing circuit funded by Outer Rim syndicates, a setting chosen to highlight the lawlessness and outlaw culture prevalent in that region.

Star Wars Galactic Racer: Outlaw Racing & Customizable Thrills from Burnout Creators

Developed by Fuse Games in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and published by Secret Mode, Galactic Racer will feature a single-player campaign starring a character named Shade, as well as multiplayer action, ship customization, and the return of podracing. Players will pilot various classes of repulsorcraft, each offering unique physics and playstyles. Shade’s single-player will also feature a rival, Kestar, a cold-blooded competitor with his own agenda. The announcement trailer emphasizes the game’s focus on speed, danger, spectacular circuits, and an aesthetic reminiscent of podracing from Star Wars Episode 1. Galactic Racer will offer competitive PvP action, allowing players to customize their vehicles and utilize abilities and takedowns to dominate races. Lucasfilm Games continues its strategy of exploring diverse genres, expanding beyond RPGs, narrative adventures, action, and strategy games. Star Wars Galactic Racer is scheduled for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and may arrive before Quantic Dream’s Star Wars Eclipse.
