This Super Mario Bros. cartridge is considered one of the rarest authenticated copies. It originates from the second production run of the 1985 NES game, identifiable by its specific glossy sticker seal. This particular copy is also recognized as the oldest known sealed example of this version. Its PSA 9.6 grade is one of the highest ever attributed to an example of this variant. According to Heritage Auctions, this is the best known sealed example of this precise Super Mario Bros. production. The cartridge was discovered only a few months prior to its auction, found inside a sealed Control Deck NES bundle that had remained unopened for nearly forty years. This means the game had never been used or handled since its release. The lot also included the launch edition NES Control Deck console, preserved in its original packaging, adding significant prestige to the acquisition.
