Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has responded to criticism of the newly unveiled DLSS 5, stating that its detractors are "completely wrong." The technology employs an AI model trained to transform video game visuals with photorealistic lighting and materials, combining generative AI with control over geometry and textures. Despite Huang's defense, a storm of criticism has arisen against DLSS 5, including mockery from game producers. Huang addressed concerns that DLSS 5 would produce homogenous images or impose Nvidia's vision on game aesthetics. He explained that the technology allows game producers full artistic control to adapt it to their game's visual style. "It's not postprocessing, it's not frame-level postprocessing it's generative control at the geometry level," Huang stated. "All of this is directly controlled by the producer. That's why we call it neural rendering." He added that developers could use DLSS 5 to create a cartoon-like shader or a game that looks like it's made of glass.
