There's an Open Challenge to Create Games at USP

Registrations are now open for the Sao Paulo stage of the Student Challenge, an international initiative by Games For Change that invites students to develop games addressing pressing social issues. The challenge encourages the creation of games focused on education, sustainability, health, and citizenship. The Brazilian stage will be held at the University of Sao Paulo (USP) from March 26th to 28th, 2026, gathering young creators interested in exploring the potential of games as tools for social transformation. Games for Change (G4C), a nonprofit organization founded in 2004, connects Brazilian students to an international community of creators committed to using digital games as a language of social and cultural innovation. The Student Challenge is part of a global network mobilizing students, educators, and developers to create innovative games addressing real-world problems. Participants will conceive and prototype game projects driven by social impact over three intensive days. Collaborative Game Jam for Social Change at USP - Empowering Young Creators (March 26th–28th, 2026)

Adding to the opportunities for young game developers, Roblox, Games for Change Latin America, and USP are collaborating on a game jam. The jam encourages the creation of games that promote positive connections, community, and online safety within Roblox Studio. The game jam, which kicked off on March 23rd, will award winners up to $3,000 by April 8th. Gilson Schwartz, an associate professor at USP's School of Communication and Arts, is heading up the game jam. According to Gabriel Recalde from Roblox, this partnership empowers young creators to build significant experiences on the platform, making it more welcoming for its 144 million daily active users.
