Following collaborations with Ubisoft Montpellier and more recently Sandfall Interactive (developers of Clair Obscur Expedition 33), the southern region of France has seen the establishment of a new video game studio. Specifically, Atlantis Studio, an independent venture, was founded in Avignon and aims to establish itself in the industry. Driving this initiative is Nico Augusto, who is passionate about paranormal worlds, literature, Japan, and dropshipping. He is backed by prominent figures: Ru Weerasuriya, founder of Ready at Dawn and creator of The Order 1886, and Kevin Crouvizier, a discreet yet influential investor known for his work as a journalist on Jeuxvideo.fr and later as an animator of the site’s web shows before its closure in 2015.
Atlantis Studio, known for its distinctive artistic direction and creative vision, does not hesitate to pursue ambitious goals: the studio announces a large-scale project developed under Unreal Engine 5, with the aim of pushing the visual and narrative boundaries of the medium. The objective is to provide immersive experiences tailored for today’s generation, balancing technical demands with artistic breadth. Atlantis Studio is more than just a project; it is also a team comprised of members who have gained experience at Ubisoft, Midgar Studio, and other industry studios. Experienced professionals brought together by a shared desire to build a human-sized studio where creativity takes precedence over mass production constraints. “We have assembled here a core of exceptional talents,” explains Nico Augusto, co-founder of the studio. “It’s an opportunity to create in such a stimulating environment, with people who share the same passion for well-made games.”
On the other hand, Ru Weerasuriya highlights the collaborative aspect and strategic choice of location: “Founding Atlantis Studio in Southern France is about anchoring our vision in a place that breathes culture, light, and inspiration. We want a space where ideas circulate, where one takes the time to do things well.” The studio is currently recruiting and aims to expand its team: programmers, artists, animators, and game designers are invited to check out the available offers on the official site atlantisstudio.fr. As for the game in question, no hints have been mentioned, but given Nico Augusto’s background and his unreleased vaporware, Season of Heaven, it is not impossible that he might relaunch the project with today’s financial means…
