Artificial Intelligence’s Impact on Brazilian Work, Education, and Environment Discussion at OBIA Seminar

The 2nd Seminar of the Brazilian AI Observatory (OBIA), hosted by the Ponto BR Information and Coordination Nucleus (NIC.br) and the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), will take place on March 28th in São Paulo. This event will bring together academic researchers, policymakers, representatives from civil society, business leaders, and professionals in the field to discuss artificial intelligence’s (AI) profound impact on jobs, education, sustainable development, and the economy. The Brazilian AI Observatory (OBIA) aims to gather and disseminate information on AI advancements in Brazil, focusing on the technology’s societal impact. It also collects data on AI use across various sectors, provides resources for responsible AI implementation, and fosters open dialogue on emerging public interest topics. This seminar directly supports that mission by encouraging diverse, multisectoral discussions on critical areas such as work and education. The overarching goal is to identify strategies for maximizing AI’s potential benefits while effectively minimizing its associated risks in creating sustainable economies.

AI’s Role and Impact in Brazilian Work, Education, and Environment Discussed at OBIA Seminar

The opening panel will feature Luiz Alexandre (Tuca) Reali Costa, OBIA Manager; Demi Getschko, NIC.br Director-President; and Renata Mielli, CGI.BR Coordinator. Keynote addresses will be delivered by Vasilka Sancin, a renowned Slovenian jurist specializing in international law and human rights, and Nizan Guanaes, a celebrated Brazilian communication strategist and UNESCO’s Goodwill Ambassador for Education, Science, and Culture. The seminar agenda includes four distinct discussion panels: Work Organization and AI: This panel will explore how the International Law Association (ILA) influences work organization, evaluation, and control. It will examine AI’s impact on job market inequalities and its potential as a tool for social justice and innovation. AI, Sustainable Development, and Climate Change: Discussions will highlight AI’s role in sustainable development and climate change, addressing both its benefits and challenges, particularly concerning energy consumption. The Brazilian AI Plan (PBIA) will also be explored within this context, focusing on its opportunities and proposed actions. Education: Transforming Teaching & Learning with AI: This panel will discuss how AI influences education, considering its opportunities, as well as ethical, pedagogical, and social quandaries.
