Insomniac Games revealed a new trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine during San Diego Comic-Con, focusing on the game’s storyline. The trailer showcases Wolverine utilizing his telepathic and telekinetic abilities, amplified by Ally Jean Grey’s prominent presence, as he defends the vulnerable from supervillains like Bolivar Trask, Omega Red, and Lady Deathstrike. The footage also hints at Wolverine’s struggles with control and visions of his turbulent past. David Fleming will compose the game’s soundtrack. Fleming’s previous work includes scoring James Gunn’s 2025 film Superman and contributing to The Last of Us television adaptation, for which he received an ASCAP Screen Music Award in 2024. Insomniac claims Fleming’s music adds significant impact to the story through dynamic cues that shift alongside Logan’s intense global journey.

The trailer introduces Team X, a group formed in the 1960s by Nathaniel Essex to counter Bolivar Trask’s anti-mutant organization. Team X is led by Essex and features Mystique, Sabretooth, and Walter Langkowski. Logan left Team X three years prior to the game’s events on bad terms with Essex, before returning for his current mission to rescue kidnapped mutants, including Leech and Nature Girl. The studio created Team X because the traditional X-Men do not exist in Earth-1048, the shared universe from the Spider-Man games. A digital prequel comic, written by Narrative Director Walt Williams with art by Luke Ross and cover art by Iban Coello, is now available on Marvel Unlimited. This comic explores how Wolverine worked with Team X under Nathaniel Essex and hints that Mr. Sinister may be the true villain behind the game’s events. The game centers on claw combat, Logan’s healing factor, heightened senses, and the physical weight of his adamantium skeleton, while gradually revealing pieces of his lost memory. During gameplay, players will find hidden connections between Wolverine and the Hand ninja organization. In the trailer footage, Lady Deathstrike wields a glowing sword capable of cutting through adamantium.

Insomniac Unveils Wolverine Fighting Game Collaboration and Jean Grey Speculation at Comic-Con

A fighting game collaboration was announced, adding the Marvel’s Wolverine suit from an unreleased title called Marvel Fighting Souls. Players can unlock a specific Battle Ribbon suit in Marvel Fighting Souls starting September 1. Conversely, owning Marvel’s Wolverine will unlock a reciprocal costume for players in Arc System Works’ Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Creative director Marcus Smith led the presentation alongside game director Mike Daly and narrative director Walt Williams at a Hall H panel during San Diego Comic-Con 2026. They were joined by Marvel Games’ Eric Monacelli. The trailer showed Logan holding open a door for Jean Grey, leading to fan speculation about her potential playability, despite earlier statements that only Wolverine is controllable. One song from the soundtrack will be available starting this Friday, with the full album set to launch on August 28, 2026. Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled to be released on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
