Upcoming Nintendo Direct Expected in September

Anticipation Builds for September's Nintendo Direct - Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary Celebration and Potential Next Mario Game Reveal

Following two August events that did not deliver fan-favored games, considerable anticipation surrounds the upcoming Nintendo Direct. Rumors, as reported by VGC, suggest the event could take place within the next few weeks, potentially even in mid-September. While specific details about the Direct remain undisclosed, strong speculation points to a special 40th-anniversary celebration for Super Mario Bros. Nintendo's first major hit, the classic game was released on September 13, 1985, aligning its 40th anniversary with the rumored Direct timing. Fans are keenly anticipating potential announcements related to Mario's milestone. While a new Mario movie sequel is already confirmed for an April 2026 release, expectations are high that Nintendo will use this opportunity to unveil the next Mario game for the Switch 2. The next Mario game is reportedly still slated for release this year. However, since the April Nintendo Direct, when information regarding the Switch 2 first surfaced, Nintendo has released no further details about the game. Consequently, many await the September event for an official announcement regarding its release date.
