Dom Casmurro Musical Kicks Off Free Season in Sao Paulo

The musical Dom Casmurro is returning to São Paulo for a free season at Itaú Cultural from April 2nd to 12th. Tickets can be reserved through the Inti platform, accessible via the Itaú Cultural website, starting at 12 PM on Tuesdays of each performance week. Guilherme Gila conceived the musical project over three years, recognizing Machado de Assis’s novel’s suitability for theatrical adaptation. A joint effort between A Casa Que Fala and Tomate Produções, Dom Casmurro premiered in November 2024 and won Best Original Drama in Musicals at the 2025 Bibi Ferreira Prize. Davi Novaes adapted the novel for the stage, and alongside musical director Gila, he presents a show with live music that transitions between rock and MPB (Brazilian Popular Music). The production is directed by Zé Henrique de Paula. The story, set in 19th-century Brazil, follows young Bentinho, who is expected to enter the seminary and become a priest, thereby abandoning his love for his neighbor Capitu. However, his mentor José Dias and friend Escobar persuade him to pursue true love instead. After Bentinho marries Capitu, jealousy and suspicion arise, especially concerning her relationship with Escobar.

Returning Dom Casmurro Musical Starring Rodrigo Mercadante et al., April 2-12 at Itaú Cultural, Avenida Paulista

The cast includes Rodrigo Mercadante, Luci Saluzzi, Cleomácio Inácio, Bibi Tolentino, Fábio Enriquez, Nabia Villela, and Eduardo Leão.
