During the April 17th broadcast of BBB 26 on Globo, Tadeu Schmidt opened the program with a tribute to his brother, Oscar Schmidt, who died earlier that day. Visibly emotional, Tadeu explained his decision to host the show despite his grief. “Today is a difficult day as we say goodbye to my brother Oscar, but I insisted on being here,” Tadeu said. “My brother, my biggest idol, has always been my greatest reference in everything, especially regarding respect and love for his profession. Oscar never left his teammates in the lurch, never absconded from the team even with a broken hand, especially on match days. That’s why I insisted on being here today.” Oscar Schmidt passed away at age 68 from cardiorespiratory arrest. He continued, “I will recover, have patience, I will recover. Today is a very important day, and I’m here for the game. If I weren’t, Oscar would be very upset with me for not coming to work. So, I am here. I apologize, but I will recover. I also apologize if I don’t have the same energy as always, but I’m here to give my best.”
