AMD FSR 4.1 Launches on Radeon RX 9000 Series, Leveraging PS5 Pro's PSSR 2 Tech for Enhanced Visuals and Performance

AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4.1, designed to deliver enhanced clarity and performance, is launching exclusively for the Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards. The Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 26.3.1 driver includes this update, which is, however, not compatible with older GPU architectures. Games expected to benefit from FSR 4.1 include Crimson Desert and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. FSR 4.1 uses AI-driven resolution conversion to produce more detailed visuals, more visible details, and smoother camera movement. It also improves performance in Ultra Performance mode. The Adrenalin 26.3.1 update also includes an update to FidelityFX, bringing Ray Regeneration 1.1 for improved reflections and global illumination. According to Mark Cerny, lead architect of the PlayStation 5 (PS5), FSR 4.1 utilizes the same neural network as the upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) 2 in the upcoming PS5 Pro. Cerny has tested FSR 4.1 in several PC games. Sony executive Jack Huynh has described Project Amethyst, the collaboration that produced FSR 4.1, as a successful team effort between AMD and the PlayStation team. This collaboration between Sony and AMD could lead to significant advancements in graphics for future hardware, potentially including the PlayStation 6.
