During their holiday break, students from Arraial do Cabo's public schools participated in a tech-focused learning initiative: the "Ferias Tech Verao Arraial do Cabo" online competition, held from January 28 to February 1 on the CASE platform. Gf Corp developed the platform, with assistance from the Federal University of Fluminense. The competition invited students in grades 1 and 2 to engage with digital challenges that combined entertainment with opportunities for cognitive growth. According to Bernardo Alcantara, the education secretary in Arraial do Cabo, this initiative provides a modern approach to local education, turning vacation time into interactive learning. He emphasized that it exemplifies innovative teaching by integrating technology and education to keep students engaged during school breaks. The highest-scoring students in each grade received Bluetooth earphones and power banks as prizes, incentivizing learning through engaging online games designed to foster critical thinking, concentration, and independence. First-grade students played "Boomelrang," a game that improves hand-eye coordination and planning skills as players throw boomerangs at bee-stolen honey pots. Second-grade students played "Jet Bear," which tests reflexes, reading comprehension, and strategic thinking in jetpack escape scenarios.
Tech-Focused Learning Initiative Enhances Students' Skills Through Game-Based Edutainment
Marcio Filho, a director at Gf Corp, believes that initiatives like "Ferias Tech" are crucial for keeping students connected to learning outside of school. He asserts that well-designed games not only entertain but also develop essential skills like focus, problem-solving, and logical reasoning. These challenges allow students to learn from mistakes, and the competition format enhances engagement through clear goals and rewards. Gf Corp, a fixture in Brazil's gaming industry for 19 years, created the CASE (Educational Solutions Box) platform in 2016 to make learning fun for public school students. CASE leverages technology and play to boost education through short, adaptive games that keep students engaged and performing at their best. Reaching thousands of young people across Brazil, CASE has facilitated over three million games and registered 100,000 users, becoming a leading force in edutainment.
