Free Expansion of Hollow Knight: Silksong Announced for 2026

Hollow Knight: Sea of Sorrow DLC Announced for 2026, Plus Updated Switch Version

According to Omelete, Team Cherry's Hollow Knight: Silksong will receive a free DLC expansion called Sea of Sorrow in 2026. The indie developer also plans to release a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the original Hollow Knight that same year. Existing owners will receive the updated version, which includes quality-of-life improvements from Silksong, at no cost. The announcements follow the highly anticipated Silksong’s release in September 2025, which proved to be a major success. The game sold over seven million copies and earned several awards, including Best Action/Adventure Game at The Game Awards. The high demand even caused some temporary storefront outages. The Sea of Sorrow expansion introduces new nautical-themed areas, bosses, and monsters, with teasers hinting at exploration deep beneath the waves.

Hollow Knight Silksong: Hornet's Journey in Pharloom Realm

In Silksong, players control Hornet, a character from the original Hollow Knight, after she is captured and transported to the realm of Pharloom. The 2D platformer and Metroidvania game tasks Hornet with journeying to the top of a fearsome citadel, emphasizing player discovery, acrobatic gameplay, and a distinctive art style. As in Hollow Knight, players explore the kingdom map, discovering new areas that may only become accessible later. Hornet is also featured in promotional artwork for the Sea of Sorrow expansion. Originally conceived as an expansion for Hollow Knight, which sold over 15 million units, Silksong evolved into a full game after eight years of development.
