Divinity: Original Sin 2 Gets Free Update on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2

Enhanced Divinity: Original Sin 2 Now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch (Nintendo 2) - Free Upgrades Available

Shortly after Larian Studios' announcement at The Game Awards, Divinity: Original Sin 2 (originally released in 2017) received enhanced versions for the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Owners of the original game can upgrade to the new version for free. Previously, Larian's RPG—released before Baldur's Gate 3—was available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The updated versions for the newer consoles offer higher resolutions and smoother performance, moving beyond backward compatibility for a more polished visual experience. This update followed an information leak revealing the PlayStation 5 version of the Definitive Edition and new trademark registrations for the Divinity franchise, suggesting a new game announcement at The Game Awards in 2025. In response to the leak, Larian's publishing director, Michael Douse, commented, "Well, it wasn't supposed to be announced yet." Divinity: Original Sin 2 is now playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with free upgrade packs available on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop. The updated version is optimized for PS5 Pro. Larian has released a launch trailer and a new FAQ for this next-gen console version of the game.

Upgraded Divinity: Original Sin 2 Returns to Consoles & iPad - Awaiting Bigger Saga Than Baldur's Gate 3

Divinity: Original Sin 2 initially launched on PC and later on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and iPad. With this update, Larian encourages fans to revisit Rivellon in anticipation of the next title in the saga, which they say will be even bigger than Baldur's Gate 3.
