UK Prime Minister Investigates Rockstar Games Over Unfair Employee Dismissals at GTA 6 Developer

Following the dismissal of over 30 Rockstar Games employees, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has voiced serious concerns, prompting an investigation into the matter at the Grand Theft Auto 6 developer. A UK trade union accuses Rockstar Games of unfairly dismissing the employees, calling the action unacceptable and unlawful. Rockstar North, the Edinburgh-based team behind GTA 6, is at the center of the controversy. While the union has not yet disclosed specific details regarding the claim, the company denies firing staff for union membership or affiliation, maintaining that the terminations were due to violations of company policies. Unions, former employees, and some current employees refute these claims, leading to protests outside Rockstar’s UK offices and a signed letter of discontent from over 200 employees. The issue has now reached Parliament, where Chris Murray, the local MP for Rockstar North, questioned the Prime Minister about the situation during Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs).

Asked whether companies in the UK should respect labor laws regardless of their profitability, including the right to join a union, Starmer called the Rockstar case “deeply concerning.” He promised to examine Rockstar’s controversial dismissal of the employees and stated, “All workers have the right to join a union, and we are determined to strengthen workers’ rights and ensure they do not face unjust consequences for union membership.” Starmer added that his ministers will investigate the case and expect to receive further information, following an earlier meeting with Rockstar that left politicians unsatisfied with the developer’s responses.
