Dispatch: Unraveling a Mystery Haunting Players

Title: Unmasking Mr. Whiskey: The Mystery Driving Dispatch's Success

Despite being released too late to receive recognition at The Game Awards 2025, Adhoc Studio's Dispatch quickly captivated players in recent weeks. Its success has spurred fans to request a second season. But before the studio considers a sequel, they must first address a key question raised by the game: the identity of Mr. Whiskey.

Mystery Solved? The Hidden Origins of Mr. Whiskey in Dispatch's Evolution

Over eight episodes, Dispatch introduces numerous memorable characters, but Mr. Whiskey stands out. The character appears briefly in each episode, dressed in an orange cat costume while making coffee and chatting with SDN members. Even after the season's conclusion, his identity remains a mystery. While some believe Mr. Whiskey plays a significant role in Dispatch's storyline, others speculate that he is merely a humorous addition by the developers. Pierre Shorette, Dispatch's narrative director, clarified in an interview with Polygon that Mr. Whiskey is a nod to the game's original concept. This explains the character's presence, given the game's evolution from its initial design.

Dispatch's Early Comic Episodes and Origins of Key Characters Unearthed

Dispatch underwent significant changes during its development. In past interviews, Adhoc Studio revealed that an early version of the game resembled The Office, featuring self-contained, comedic episodes that could be viewed in any order. According to Creative Director Nick Herman, the protagonist would not have had a fixed team. Players would select a team member, similar to choosing a starter Pokémon. Mr. Whiskey, along with Waterboy and Invisigal, originated from this concept. As Dispatch evolved, the developers shifted Mr. Whiskey to a cameo role. Shorette's explanation clarifies that Mr. Whiskey's inclusion in the final version of Dispatch is a tribute to these earlier ideas.
