It is well known that launching a conference during the “E3” period is as crucial as concluding it with distinction, and Microsoft understood this significance. This is evident in the announcement of DOOM: The Dark Ages, the third episode since the highly successful reboot of the franchise in 2016, which acts as a prequel to subsequent entries. Players will encounter their Slayer set in a medieval period, far from Earth, where he faces hordes of more formidable and terrifying demons than ever before. Fortunately, the Slayer has access to an arsenal designed for such adversaries, including weapons that sometimes draw inspiration from historical battles. Among these are a skull-crushing bludgeon that flings bone fragments by the dozens, an effective double shotgun, a bubbling plasmid launcher, close-quarters punches, and a chainsaw bayonet shield which provides protection against enemy fire while allowing for relentless dismemberment.
The developers at id Software chose to push further and be more imaginative, allowing our warrior to ride a cybernetic dragon for movement as well as face creatures that are even more challenging. Additionally, some sequences feature colossal battles because our Slayer can summon Atlan, a mech capable of causing significant damage in monster warfare on the scale of an apartment building. It is brutal, it is gory, and it is imaginative, all set to powerful heavy metal music with intense double-bass drumming that makes one want to invest in high-quality hardware. DOOM: The Dark Ages is scheduled for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series in 2025. It will also be available day one on Game Pass.
Regarding the music for DOOM 2025, it has been confirmed that Mick Gordon will no longer be involved due to a disagreement with Bethesda.
