While attention has long been focused on Black Myth Wu Kong, China has other projects and games in development that aim to demonstrate its capability to stand independently from Western and Japanese major studios on the global stage. Titles such as Where Winds Meet signal a shift away from traditional supportive roles in AAA game production, where Chinese developers would typically handle coding or asset creation for larger studios. This is not the first time Where Winds Meet has garnered attention; indeed, it has been seen before. However, Sony’s inclusion of the game in their State of Play event underscores a specific interest from the Japanese company and officially announces its arrival on PS5. Although no release date has been set yet, Everstone Studio appears poised to deliver an impressive product. Development of the game has spanned five years, and recent indications suggest progress is accelerating.
In terms of the story, “Where Winds Meet” is set during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, a time marked by significant changes and conflicts in the country. This setting enables developers to craft a narrative that spans across all of China, incorporating its rich mythology. Our character utilizes the mystical powers of Qinggong to swiftly scale cliffs or traverse water surfaces, employs Chi power to disorient enemies from afar or to see distant objectives, and can also acquire martial arts skills by observing and imitating animal behavior. This includes abilities such as spitting fire like a dragon, jumping like a giant frog, or roaring like a lion. Here is a preview of the expected skills.
If it is not an open world, the game will feature numerous regions to explore, cities to visit, NPCs to interact with, and several puzzles to solve. Additionally, various mini-games are anticipated to add variety. A release date has not yet been announced.
