A harder difficulty mode may be a new feature in the upcoming Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen expansion, as suggested by Game Director Kenta Kinoshita in a recent interview. Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, unexpectedly revealed in June, has been in development for approximately six months since the base game's launch. Capcom has directly incorporated community feedback, with a recurring request being for increased difficulty, as the base game was generally considered too easy. Speaking with Japanese magazine Famitsu, Kinoshita stated that an auto-leveling system would not be implemented in Dark Arisen. He explained, "Some people like the system where enemies get stronger based on player level; others don't, so we didn't adopt it." Instead, the development team is considering a Hard Mode designed for experienced players seeking a more challenging and engaging experience. This mode is intended for players with maxed-out or near-maxed-out stats, offering a satisfying challenge. This feature has not yet been officially announced and could be a surprise revealed closer to the game's October launch, or potentially as part of a future update.

Producer Naoto Oyama further clarified the situation, stating, "We are aware that many users have requested a Hard Mode since the launch of Dragon's Dogma 2. We are considering implementing playable difficulty levels for both the main story and new areas, but this has not yet been officially decided." This deliberation suggests Capcom faces a challenge in satisfying all Dragon's Dogma fans. Some players have expressed frustration with features that add friction to gameplay, such as the limited availability of teleportation stones, while others believe these restrictions enhance the game's engagement and challenge. By keeping the possibility of a Hard Mode open closer to the launch, Capcom appears intent on avoiding further community polarization, even if it means proceeding with caution regarding conflicting player expectations for Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. The Dark Arisen expansion will include new dungeons specifically for the base game and over 25 hours of additional content, set to release in October. This expansion directly addresses one of the most requested features from the Dragon's Dogma 2 community.
