Rockstar Offers Free GTA 5 Update from PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

Rockstar Games has announced that a free upgrade for Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) will be offered from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 and from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S, available starting June 18, 2026. This initiative allows players who own the last-generation versions of GTA V to upgrade to the current-generation consoles at no additional cost. The Enhanced Edition of GTA V, available for PC players at no charge, includes features such as ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination. Furthermore, GTA members can now access GTA V’s Story Mode directly from their GTA Games Library, alongside GTA Online. Exciting news on the horizon includes the introduction of “The Art Studio,” a new Mansion property upgrade, which will be part of the upcoming “The Kortz Center Heist” update. This update enables players to prepare for a major art theft operation targeting the Kortz Center.

“The Kortz Center Heist” update for GTA Online is set to launch in July on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Starting June 18, 2026, players who own any version of Grand Theft Auto V for PS4 or the digital version for Xbox One can upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions, respectively, at no additional cost. This allows them to experience the definitive GTAV and GTA Online versions before the release of “The Kortz Center Heist.” GTAV and GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S feature significant technical improvements, including easy progress migration for Story Mode and Online. New content includes vehicles and high-performance enhancements from Hao’s Special Works, Career Progression Rewards, and much more. PC players can also experience these updates. They can upgrade to the Enhanced version from the Legacy version for free, gaining access to exclusive PC features like environmental occlusion with ray tracing and global illumination. This free upgrade means players will not need to spend an additional sum to obtain the current-generation version.
