Remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Announced in Trailer

Nintendo has announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for release in 2026. Nintendo revealed this highly anticipated title during a June 9 Nintendo Direct event, accompanied by a teaser trailer. The trailer offers a glimpse of the game's visual direction, which appears to lean towards realism, a departure from the painterly art style seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The teaser features scenes of an ancient tapestry depicting Hyrule's prophecies, young Link sleeping, and the familiar "Hey, Listen" from his fairy companion. A dream sequence shows the Triforce on Link's hand glowing brightly, and the Great Deku Tree provides narration, nodding to the original game's opening. While the trailer is brief and does not showcase gameplay, it suggests a remasterization that respects the original Nintendo 64 artistic style.

Upcoming Remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Slated for 2026 Release - Zelda and Link Cast Unveiled

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has been a frequently requested title from Nintendo's back catalog, alongside games like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The last major release in the Zelda series was The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom in 2024. In addition to the game remake, a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie is scheduled to premiere on April 30, 2027. Nintendo has unveiled the leads, Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, in their costumes. Their attire suggests the film will draw inspiration from titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is anticipated for release in 2026, though a specific date has not yet been announced. It remains to be seen whether Nintendo will launch the game before or after Grand Theft Auto VI, which is scheduled for November 19.
