Insomniac Games revealed new gameplay footage for the highly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine during the June 2, 2026, PlayStation State of Play. The seven-minute demonstration showcased Logan’s signature ferocity and offered insights from the developers. The gameplay sequence centers on a rescue mission where Wolverine confronts the Reavers, a faction of cybernetic mercenaries working for Bolivar Trask, a prominent figure in the X-Men universe known for his belief in human supremacy. During the footage, Wolverine is seen executing brutal attacks, including a leap from a significant height and a swift neck stab with his claws. Insomniac described the combat as fast, fluid, and intensely violent, featuring numerous gruesome finisher animations that result in visible blood splatter and stains on Wolverine’s suit. The game’s vibrant and colorful aesthetic contrasts with the dark and gritty tone of the combat, which includes instances of smashed heads and severed limbs.

Marvel’s Wolverine features Wolverine’s healing factor prominently, allowing him to regenerate wounds in real-time when his health drops to a critical level. The demonstration also hinted at regenerative properties for Wolverine’s suit. Insomniac showcased Wolverine’s ability to alternate between light attacks, brutal combos, special techniques, and savage finishes. Notable skills revealed include “Bull Rush” and “Keen Whirlwind.” Environmental interaction is also a key element, with Wolverine able to throw enemies against objects and use the surroundings as improvised weapons. A significant surprise during the presentation was the appearance of Jean Grey, who will play a substantial role in the story. She is playable alongside Wolverine, utilizing her telekinetic and telepathic powers to manipulate the environment, immobilize enemies, and create openings for Wolverine’s attacks. The game also incorporates a rage mechanic, where performing attacks, parries, and eliminations fills a gauge that enhances Wolverine’s abilities. When sufficiently charged, this triggers a “Berserk” mode, inspired by the Black, White & Blood comic series, which shifts the action to a monochromatic style and unleashes Wolverine’s full brutality.

The game is set to include cinematic pursuit sequences, featuring Wolverine on his motorcycle as he chases down Reaver convoys, jumps between vehicles, and engages enemies on the highway.
