Nintendo has acknowledged it did not pass on all manufacturing cost increases to consumers with the recent price adjustment for the Nintendo Switch 2. President Shuntaro Furukawa stated during an investor conference call that while the company aimed to prioritize broad adoption, absorbing the rising component costs over an extended period proved challenging. Effective May 8, 2026, the Nintendo Switch 2 will see price increases across various regions. In the United States, the price will rise from $449.99 to $499.99. Canada will experience an increase from $629.99 to $679.99, and in Europe, the price will jump from €469.99 to €499.99. Japan will also implement a price adjustment on May 25, with the Switch 2 increasing by ¥59,980. These price hikes are attributed to two primary factors: tariffs and hardware shortages, with memory costs identified as a significant contributor. Nintendo’s financial forecast for March 2027 indicates a nearly $1 billion impact from rising component prices and tariff measures.

Despite the price increase, Furukawa emphasized that the new price does not fully reflect all cost increases. Nintendo opted to absorb some of the rising expenses to avoid hindering the Switch 2’s competitiveness during a critical period. End-of-year sales for the console fell slightly short of Nintendo’s expectations, though its novelty remains a selling point. To offset these challenges and maintain hardware momentum, Nintendo is focusing on its software library. Furukawa hinted at a robust lineup of unannounced games planned for release. Price Increases for Nintendo Switch Models and Online Service in 2026 and Beyond
