The incident began when J0nathan, a known leaker of the series, posted an alleged screenshot on X, claiming it showed an early version of Invictus. Ubisoft reacted to this popular image from a hidden Assassin's Creed playtest via an official Assassin's Creed social media page. The image quickly spread among fans and specialized profiles, reigniting discussions about Ubisoft's next move for the Assassin's Creed brand. Soon after, Ubisoft joined the conversation to debunk the content, accusing the discloser of spreading misinformation. The company stated that the leaked image was heavily doctored with AI. The leaker, J0nathan, subsequently admitted to using AI to remove a playtest watermark and tweak some colors in the picture, then posted what he claimed was the real, unaltered version. Obvious differences between the two images were noted, including variations in lighting, character clothing colors, and arena floor textures in the edited one.

J0nathan then confronted Ubisoft's response with another image, which he claims is the original, unedited version. "Too bad for them," he ironically remarked, referring to the company.
