For fans who feel the recent Spider-Man films haven’t been mature enough, Tom Holland says that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be a more serious installment. The actor, who portrays Peter Parker, noted that the film will explore the consequences of Parker’s choice to have his friends forget him to save them. Holland stated at CinemaCon 2026 that Brand New Day, produced by Sony Pictures, is the most moving and mature Spider-Man film he has made. The trailer preview depicts Peter struggling with his isolation and seeing Mary Jane with someone else, suggesting a focus on Parker’s emotional suffering. Holland previewed a clip from Spider-Man: New Day at CinemaCon. In the scene, Peter Parker, disguised, encounters his old friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) at a party. Peter follows Ned, and they discuss a Spider-Man-themed board Ned created. Unaware he’s speaking to Spider-Man, Ned says that Spider-Man saved him and his friends in high school and expresses his hope to thank the hero someday.

Brand New Day, the fourth film in Holland’s Spider-Man series, follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Peter Parker erased his friends’ memories. Despite this, he attempts to reconnect with Ned and MJ (Zendaya), who no longer recognize him. A theory board in the scene with Ned hints that Spider-Man might be Miles Morales. MJ tells Ned she feels like she’s waiting for something, hinting at the absence of a significant person in her life. In Brand New Day, Zendaya plays Michelle Jones and Jacob Batalon plays Ned Leeds, alongside Tom Holland as Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Amy Pascal, Kevin Feige, Rachel O’Connor, and Avi Arad produced the film, while David Cain and Louis D’Esposito are executive producers. Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios, and Pascal Pictures handled production, and Sony is distributing the film. Destin Daniel Cretton directs the new film, officially titled Spider-Man: Fresh Start.
