PlayStation Shuts Down Studio Without Release

PlayStation Closes Second Studio Under Blundell (Dark Outlaw Games) Amidst PS5 Direction Concerns

PlayStation is closing Dark Outlaw Games, a studio founded in March 2025 and led by Jason Blundell, formerly known for his work on the Zombies game mode in the Call of Duty series. Before establishing Dark Outlaw, Blundell was part of Deviation Games, which closed in March 2024. This is the second studio Blundell has collaborated with Sony that has closed. According to Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, Dark Outlaw Games was in the early stages of its first project, and the number of employees affected by the closure has not been disclosed. Around the same time, Sony reportedly cut approximately 50 employees from its mobile division as part of a move away from the mobile gaming market. These decisions follow concerns about PlayStation's direction during the PS5 era, including the Concord project, the acquisition of Bungie, the performance of PSVR2, and the company's increased focus on live-service games. Dark Outlaw Games is the second PlayStation studio to close recently, following Bluepoint Games, which announced its closure in March 2026.
