Farewell, PSN: The Drastic Change Sony is Preparing for PlayStation Consoles

Rebranded PlayStation Digital Ecosystem: Unifying Across Devices by 2026

Sony Interactive Entertainment will rebrand its digital platform, discontinuing "PlayStation Network" and "PSN" starting September 2026. Insider Gaming obtained this information from an internal document Sony sent to video game studios and producers. The document states that the name change reflects the expanding scope of Sony's online ecosystem, which now includes PC and mobile devices in addition to consoles. Sony has assured gamers and studios that this is a visual and branding update only, and the technical functionality of existing services will not be affected. Core features like friends lists, multiplayer, and trophies will remain unchanged. This transition will occur over the next two years. Beginning in autumn 2026, when PlayStation's technical requirements (TRC) are updated, all development studios must adhere to the new brand guidelines. This requires removing all references to "PlayStation Network" or "PSN" from game interfaces, promotional materials, and external services, including PC releases. New branding guidelines are expected later this year. While this initiative aims to unify Sony's platform offerings across devices, the document does not reveal the new name for its digital ecosystem, leaving developers awaiting further information.
