While navigating through challenging times, Crystal Dynamics continues its journey, working on new Tomb Raider games and a TV series, despite recent layoffs and restructuring aimed at ensuring future growth.

On Wednesday, Crystal Dynamics, the developer of Tomb Raider games, announced its fourth round of layoffs in the past year. According to a LinkedIn post, 20 employees across programming, development, and administrative teams were let go as part of a restructuring to finish current projects and prepare for the future. Crystal Dynamics, acquired by Embracer Group in 2022, previously underwent layoffs in March (17 employees), August (number undisclosed), and November (30 employees) of last year. These restructurings coincide with Embracer Group's moves to reduce its presence in the gaming market. The company is offering severance packages and job placement assistance to the affected employees. Currently, Crystal Dynamics is developing two new Tomb Raider games, both officially announced at The Game Awards. One is a remake of the original 1996 adventure, titled Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, expected to release in late 2026. The second game, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, is an original title scheduled for release in 2027. Alix Wilton Regan will replace Camilla Luddington as the voice of Lara Croft in these new Tomb Raider games.

Amazon Game Studios will publish the upcoming Tomb Raider titles. Crystal Dynamics' involvement in the Perfect Dark reboot for Xbox has concluded, as the project has been cancelled. Between 2024 and 2025, Embracer Group dismissed approximately 2,000 employees and sold various studios under its control.
