Bethesda has announced that Starfield will be released on PlayStation 5 on April 7, with both physical and digital editions available. The standard edition will retail for $49.99, while the premium edition will cost $69.99. Described as one of Bethesda’s most ambitious projects, the PS5 version of Starfield will include all content currently available on the Xbox Series X|S and PC versions, including content released in September 2023, along with all subsequent updates and improvements. The release will coincide with the launch of the free “Free Lanes” update and the “Terran Armada” DLC. The PS5 version of Starfield will utilize the DualSense controller’s light bar to indicate the player character’s health level. It will also incorporate adaptive triggers, the touchpad, and the controller’s speaker. Starfights and dogfights will use the adaptive triggers, while in-game audio logs and intercom chats from nearby ships will play through the speaker.

On the PS5 Pro, players can choose between modes that prioritize either higher frame rates or enhanced visuals. The “Pro Performance Mode” boosts the target FPS, while the “Pro Visual Mode” enhances resolution, displaying the game in 4K resolution at 30fps. By contrast, standard PS5 consoles will run the game with enhanced visuals at 60fps. The premium edition, priced at $69.99, includes both premium DLCs: “Shattered Space” and “Terran Armada.” The new standalone “Terran Armada” DLC will be available separately for $10; players who purchased the premium edition at launch will receive “Terran Armada” for free. In addition to the PS5 release, Starfield will receive its largest update since launch. The “Terran Armada” DLC introduces a wealth of new content, including new characters, locations, missions, enemies, and gameplay systems. Alongside the “Terran Armada” DLC, the free “Free Lanes” update will introduce several enhancements. These include interstellar travel within star systems and new points of interest, encounters, and dungeons to explore. Players can also utilize “XTech” for weapon, ship module, and equipment upgrades. Additional features include enemy tweaks, a new planetary land vehicle, outpost updates, new crew members, and Starborn improvements that allow players to carry more items into new game plus sessions. With special enhancements for graphics and performance on the PS5 Pro, along with a substantial free update and new story DLC for all systems, the April 7 release promises to be the most complete version of Starfield yet.
