After years of leaks, especially from journalists like Tom Henderson, Ubisoft has officially confirmed the remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, now titled Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remastered. Some sources refer to it as Black Flag Resynced. The title Black Flag Resynced appeared on a European ratings board listing in December 2025. Ubisoft initially hinted at the game's release by mentioning an unannounced title slated to arrive before the end of their current financial year (March 31, 2026). However, in January, the company delayed the game into the next financial year (ending March 31, 2027) due to a major restructuring of teams, projects, and studios. The only image Ubisoft has released shows Edward Kenway standing on a bowsprit. The remake, internally known as Black Flag Resynced or Project Obsidian, will modernize Edward Kenway's pirate adventures using Ubisoft's in-house Anvil engine. Currently, Ubisoft has not shared details regarding gameplay changes or added features. The game is expected to launch between April 2026 and March 2027. In a blog post, Jean Guesdon, Ubisoft's Head of Content for the Assassin's Creed franchise, also addressed the future of the series, noting several upcoming projects.
Guesdon noted that Assassin's Creed Shadows, launched last year, is approaching its first anniversary and has significantly evolved with new features, technical improvements, and gameplay adjustments inspired by player and content creator feedback. To celebrate, Ubisoft plans a livestream for March 20th on their Twitch channel to present the latest update and some surprises, including parkour challenge results. However, Assassin's Creed Shadows is entering its final support phase, with updates becoming less frequent and smaller in scope as Ubisoft shifts focus to other projects. One of those projects is Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, reportedly a mainline game set during the witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire. Another confirmed project is Assassin's Creed Invictus, a PvP multiplayer game developed by veterans of For Honor. According to Guesdon, this game will offer a darker, more narrative experience set at a pivotal moment in the story and employ a test-and-learn model incorporating regular player feedback. Ubisoft has cautioned that circulating rumors about the game are not entirely accurate.
Assassin's Creed Universe Expands with Jade, Mobile Project League, and Unity Patch on Multiple Platforms
Ubisoft also mentioned other projects in development, including Assassin's Creed Jade, the mobile open-world episode, and the potential return of a cooperative mode, possibly related to the internal Project League. The goal, according to Ubisoft, is to continually diversify experiences within the Assassin's Creed universe. Parallel to the games, the Netflix live-action series is still in development, with new information, including casting details, expected soon. Finally, a free patch is now available for Assassin's Creed Unity that allows play at 60 frames per second on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. From a Black Flag remake to new experiences on consoles and mobile, Ubisoft aims to expand the Assassin's Creed universe across multiple platforms in the coming years.
