Guided by his spirit guide, Kusanagi, Takechiyo must travel through time to save Japan and fulfill his destiny. This time-traveling quest allows players to explore various historical periods. The game significantly expands the scope of the series, featuring an open world that spans multiple eras, including Edo Castle during the Sengoku period, Totomi, Heian-era Kyoto, and the Bakumatsu period for the first time. Nioh 3 offers two distinct and switchable combat styles: Samurai and Ninja. Samurai mode emphasizes traditional close-quarters combat, enhanced by the Mastered Arts system, and features a Deflection mechanic for perfectly timed blocks. Ninja mode focuses on agility, incorporating quick evasions, aerial attacks, and Ninjutsu techniques like the Smoke Bomb and Evasion maneuvers.
