Ex-Konami Veteran Leads Technology for New Netflix FIFA Game

Julien Merceron Joins Delphi Interactive as CTO for Netflix's Innovative FIFA Game Project

Julien Merceron, known for his work on titles like Metal Gear Solid V and Pro Evolution Soccer, has joined Delphi Interactive as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Delphi is developing a new FIFA title exclusively for Netflix Games subscribers. Diverging from typical AAA development, Delphi is employing a smaller, highly experienced team focused on core football gameplay and a player-centric experience. Refactor Games, based in Los Angeles, is also contributing to the project. Players can control the game via their mobile devices on compatible TVs, offering a different experience from traditional gaming platforms. In an official statement, Merceron said that Delphi and Refactor aim to reimagine FIFA games for the future, using streamlined teams of top designers and developers to maintain creative vision and cater to fans' passion for soccer. Theodor Tang-Peronard, Vice President of Strategy and Executive Producer of the game, emphasized that Merceron’s experience with "fun-focused soccer games" will be crucial in shaping the new FIFA. Their goal is to balance accessibility for new players with the depth expected by longtime fans of soccer simulators. The new Netflix FIFA is scheduled for release in 2026, ahead of the World Cup.
