Call of Duty 7: Black Ops 7 Taken Over by Battlefield 6 for First Time in 2025

According to sales figures released by Circana, Battlefield 6 was the best-selling game in the US in 2025, contributing to what analysts believe was the Call of Duty series' worst sales performance in years. EA's new shooter topped physical media sales charts across most platforms, second only to NBA 2K26 on PlayStation. Overall, Battlefield 6 was the second best-selling title, with Borderlands 4 in first place and Monster Hunter: Wilds in fourth. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, previously the best-selling game in December, fell to fifth place amid competition from Battlefield 6 and the newly released Arc Raiders. Day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Series X/S also negatively impacted Call of Duty sales, though Microsoft apparently saw no significant increase in subscriber numbers.

Battlefield 6's Resurgence Outshines Call of Duty 7 in Critical Acclaim and Post-Launch Challenges

Unlike Black Ops 7, which received poor reviews, Battlefield 6 achieved critical acclaim. The annual release schedule of Call of Duty seemed to have exhausted both developers and players, while Battlefield 6 represented a revitalized franchise after multiple EA studios revamped the series following the underwhelming launch of Battlefield 2042. Now, EA and Battlefield Studios face the challenge of managing post-launch expectations, especially with Vince Zampella's abrupt departure and the delay of the second season, factors that will test the long-term appeal of the game.
