Black Ops 7 Achieved Worst Performance for Call of Duty Since 2008

Black Ops 7 Underperforms Despite U.S. Top Seller Status in Competitive 2025 Market

Despite being the best-selling game in the U.S. for December 2025, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 had its weakest launch since 2008's World at War, underperforming even 2023's Modern Warfare 3. According to Circana's year-end list, Black Ops 7 finished fifth overall in 2025, with Battlefield 6 taking the top spot. These results raise concerns for Microsoft Gaming. Black Ops 6 had a massive launch despite its availability on Game Pass, and Activision struggled to match that success in such a competitive year, especially with the release of Arc Raiders and Battlefield 6. Adding to the challenges, PlayStation reported that Black Ops 7 ranked only seventh among PS5 bestsellers for 2025. These figures, representing the lowest sales for the series on the PlayStation 5 in years, are likely to prompt further discussion within Microsoft.
