Brazil's gaming scene is experiencing significant growth. Digital game consumption increased by 8.9% between 2024 and 2025, with 82.8% of Brazilians now identifying as gamers. In this thriving environment, PUCPR is hosting the 17th Global Game Jam Curitiba from January 30 to February 1. This event brings together developers to create games for various platforms, including PCs, mobile devices, VR, and analog formats like board games and escape rooms. Participants engage in a 48-hour creative marathon; to maintain focus, some even camp out at the venue. According to Bruno Campagnolo de Paula, coordinator of PUCPR's Digital Games course, the Game Jam emphasizes immersion, innovation, and the exchange of experiences for both seasoned professionals and newcomers. The Global Game Jam Curitiba, organized by PUCPR's Digital Games course, has been held since 2010 as part of a worldwide initiative. As one of the largest events of its kind, it aims to gather over 500 developers and produce 100 games by 2026.
