Amazon Unveils Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in Prime Video's Tomb Raider Series

Sophie Turner Transforms into Lara Croft for Prime Video's Tomb Raider Series - A Faithful Adaptation Led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jonathan Van Tulleken

Amazon has released the first image of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in its upcoming Tomb Raider series for Prime Video. The image features Turner in the character's classic attire: a tank top, short shorts, iconic red lens glasses, and dual pistols, signaling a faithful adaptation of the franchise's retro aesthetic. Turner, 29, assumes the role of Lara Croft after achieving early fame as Sansa Stark in HBO's Game of Thrones, a part that garnered her an Emmy nomination and lasted eight seasons. She replaces Alicia Vikander, who played Croft in the 2018 film reboot. Phoebe Waller-Bridge leads the Amazon series as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner, alongside Chad Hodge. Jonathan Van Tulleken is directing and executive producing as well.

Prime Video's Tomb Raider Series Expands Cast with Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs, Aligning with Future Game Designs

Joining Croft in the series are Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis, a new character not from the original games, and Jason Isaacs as Atlas DeMornay, Croft's uncle and a key figure in the Tomb Raider mythos. Bill Paterson and Martin Bobb-Semple will play Winston, the Croft family's butler, and Zip, Croft's tech support and close friend, respectively. The cast also includes Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Celia Imrie, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, August Wittgenstein, and Juliette Motamed, who will portray characters created specifically for the series. This version of Lara Croft aligns with the character's design in future games, including a remake of the original Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, slated for release in 2026, and another new adventure, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, expected in 2027. The Tomb Raider series aims to reboot the franchise on a large scale, merging live-action TV shows and video games into a unified narrative. Beyond Game of Thrones, Turner has appeared in action productions such as the X-Men franchise as Jean Grey (Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix) and more recently in the crime drama The Staircase and the series Steal.
