Amazon's God of War Series Casts Actor for Kratos Role

Amazon's Live-Action God of War Taps Ryan Hurst for Kratos and BAFTA Winner's Transformative Shave

Ryan Hurst, who won a BAFTA Award for portraying Thor in PlayStation's God of War Ragnarök, has been cast as Kratos in Amazon's live-action God of War series. Hurst may need to shave his head to more closely resemble the character's appearance in the games. Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica) will serve as showrunner, executive producer, and writer for the series, with Frederick E.O. Toye (Shogun, The Boys) directing the opening episodes. According to Deadline, pre-production is underway in Vancouver, and filming is set to begin in March 2026. The series will adapt the Norse saga depicted in the recent God of War games, but it remains unknown whether the storyline will follow the existing games or forge a new path. Producers will announce further casting details before filming commences, including the roles of Atreus, Mimir, and Freya.
