Settlement Ends Lawsuit Over Light of Motiram Plagiarism Allegations Against Sony and Tencent

Sony and Tencent have settled their lawsuit regarding Light of Motiram, which Sony claimed was a blatant copy of its Horizon series. Court documents revealed this week that the companies reached a confidential settlement on December 18, 2025, resulting in the game’s removal from Steam and the Epic Games Store. The case, initiated in a California court in July, will be dismissed with merit, meaning the matter is closed and cannot be reopened. Currently, the Steam page for Light of Motiram redirects users to the main Steam store page, while the Epic Games Store link returns a 404 error. The game’s official website remains active, but none of its store links are functional. The settlement agreement stipulates, “All Pending Motions Are Withdrawn and This Action is, by This Instrument, Dismissed with Prejudice. Each Party Shall Bear Their Own Attorneys Fees and Court Costs.” The Verge also reported on December 18 that the court case was dismissed with prejudice, including a related still from Light of Motiram.

Settlement Resolves Plagiarism Lawsuit, Removes Light of Motiram from Steam and Epic Games Store; Tencent Anticipates Collaborations with Sony

Tencent announced that the issue has been resolved and expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations with Sony. Tencent has not yet indicated its future plans for the game. It’s worth noting that Tencent had previously pitched the idea of turning the Horizon series into a mobile game to PlayStation. As a result of the settlement, Light of Motiram has been removed from both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
