Were The Game Awards 2025 the Worst Ever? Your Votes Speak for Themselves

Critics Divide Over The Game Awards 2025: Winner's Triumph Amidst Mixed Reactions

The Game Awards, now an annual global event, took place on December 11–12 of last year. The 2025 show featured numerous major announcements and surprises, with Clair Obscur Expedition 33 winning Game of the Year. However, audience reactions to the ceremony were mixed.

According to Geoff Keighley's post-event poll, nearly two-fifths of the approximately 405,000 respondents rated The Game Awards 2025 a D or lower. More than half rated it only slightly higher, around a C. Despite significant reveals, such as Tomb Raider and Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, many viewers were underwhelmed. For example, a tweet by Synth Potato received almost 30,000 likes, criticizing the show's ending. The tweet read, "What were you all thinking to end the show like that A freetoplay hero shooter as the big finish" The general sentiment was that the final hour "was a drag" and lacked an exciting closer. Although many conceded that the first two hours were strong, a significant number felt that this year's Game Awards faltered toward the end.

Mixed Reactions to The Game Awards 2025 Across Platforms: Audiences Weigh In

Despite the criticism, approximately 40% of respondents rated The Game Awards 2025 favorably. A quarter gave it a B, and around 15% rated it an A. However, a poll on the official Game Awards YouTube channel presented a different picture. Out of nearly 200,000 votes, 19% rated the Awards an A, while 47% gave it a B, indicating that about two-thirds of YouTube voters were pleased with the event (Sources: X, YouTube). In conclusion, while The Game Awards 2025 delivered significant announcements and surprises, audience reception varied across different platforms.
