Free Update for Enhanced Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Current-Gen Consoles
Larian Studios, while showcasing the next installment in the Divinity saga at The Game Awards 2025, has also released a free upgrade for Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition on current-generation consoles. If you already own the game on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, you can now update for improved performance at no extra charge. The upgraded game is available for download on these platforms, boasting enhanced resolutions and frame rates compared to the original Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One versions. Specifically, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is now a crossbuy title on PlayStation, granting access to both the PS4 and PS5 versions with a single purchase. On Xbox, the game is now cross-generation compatible between Xbox One and Series X|S. A small fee of ¥100 applies to the game on Switch and PlayStation in Japan. Larian Studios confirmed a frame rate improvement to 60FPS, though detailed technical specifications for resolution, loading times, visual effects, and interface adjustments will be released at a later date. The 60FPS performance includes specific optimizations for the PS5 Pro on Sony consoles.
Enhanced Divinity: Original Sin 2 Now Available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch - Standalone Experience with Discounts!
Players new to the Divinity series can enjoy the upgrade as a standalone experience, though Larian Studios recommends playing the original Divinity: Original Sin for a more complete understanding of the story. Currently, all three platforms are offering discounted prices on Divinity: Original Sin 2, with the PlayStation 5 version available for $14.99 USD. Nintendo eShop also has a promotion on the standard version for Switch, with 50% off. This upgrade is not a remake or remaster but an enhancement of the original game, offering an improved experience for both new and returning players.
