Guillermo del Toro Enthralled by God of War

Guillermo del Toro Praises Cinematic Brilliance in God of War Series

Acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro, known for his love of video games and even an appearance in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, has expressed admiration for Sony Santa Monica’s God of War series. He lauded the games' cinematic action and presentation. Del Toro, a self-confessed hardcore gamer, discussed his favorite video games on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, listing God of War among his all-time favorites alongside titles like BioShock, Death Stranding, Metal Gear Solid, Red Dead Redemption, and Shadow of the Colossus. He specifically praised the atmosphere and lighting, stating, "When Kratos faces Odin, and they engage in a Peaky Blinders-like struggle, with Odin repeatedly beating Kratos… What a video game! The way they utilize the console's budget for creating atmospheric light dispersion makes it look like a movie." Del Toro likely meant Baldur, not Odin, but his comments about God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok (2022) highlight the cinematic power of Sony's acclaimed franchise.
