R-Type Dimensions III Remake Announced for Multiple Platforms in 2026

Inin Games has announced R-Type Dimensions III, a remake of the shoot 'em up classic R-Type III, scheduled for release in May 2026 on PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and potentially a future Nintendo platform. Felix Wagner, Publishing Producer at Inin Games, stated that developing R-Type Dimensions III has been "an incredible privilege," emphasizing the close partnership with Tozai and Irem, the original creators and license holders of R-Type. Development is being handled by Kritzelkratz 3000, a German studio known for reviving classic games from the 80s and 90s. R-Type Dimensions III updates the original R-Type III with 3D visuals that players can toggle to the original pixel art at any time. Alongside the updated graphics, the game features reimagined sound design. Players can seamlessly switch between the classic 2D and 3D styles. The game will also include an advanced mode available from the start, local co-op, new scoring and survival mechanics, customizable controls, and quality-of-life features. Furthermore, players can choose between normal and "crazy" 3D camera settings.

R-Type Dimensions III: Special & Collector's Editions Available for Pre-Order with Bonuses

Physical editions of R-Type Dimensions III are also planned. A Special Edition will include an art book and the original soundtrack, while the Collector's Edition will feature a 15 cm figurine recreating the battle between the ship and the series’ most iconic boss, along with all the contents of the Special Edition. Pre-orders are now available at ININGAMES.COM, offering a choice of standard, Special, and Collector's Editions. Continuing a legacy of enhanced re-releases, R-Type Dimensions III follows in the footsteps of R-Type Dimensions, which combined the first two games in the franchise and was released as a temporary exclusive on Xbox 360 in 2009.
