In an exciting announcement at Kojima Productions' anniversary event, the legendary creator of Metal Gear, Hideo Kojima, shares his vision for Physint - a new action and espionage game in partnership with Sony that aims to blur the line between cinema and video games by introducing innovative gimmicks and collaborating with film professionals.

Kojima Expands Cinematic Integration in Od and Physint, Aims to Revolutionize Gaming Experience

Hideo Kojima has returned to discussing his upcoming projects, Od and Physint, and his ambition to further integrate cinematic elements into games. In an interview with Ananweb, he elaborated on details from the Beyond The Strand event in September, which celebrated Kojima Productions' 10th anniversary, exploring the core concepts of each title. Regarding Od, his horror project in collaboration with Microsoft, Kojima stressed his intention to create a completely novel experience. "I cannot say exactly what it will be yet or if it will even work," Kojima commented. "We've made games of stealth and delivery that were different from anything we've seen, but in terms of system, they were similar to other games. This time, we're trying to change the service model completely, so it should be a big challenge. We packed the trailer with hints, so if you think carefully, maybe you can figure it out."

Kojima's Independent Journey & New Projects, Including Physint, at GDC 2023

In related news, Hideo Kojima will deliver a keynote speech at the GDC Gaming Festival in San Francisco next March. His presentation, titled "Starting Fresh: A Word for Creators Thinking About Going Independent," will address his journey to independence after leaving Konami a decade ago to establish Kojima Productions. He will discuss creative risks, brand development, and projects including Death Stranding, Physint, and Od. His talk is scheduled for Thursday, March 12th. Shifting focus to Physint, the upcoming action and espionage game produced with Sony, Kojima adopted a more relaxed tone, joking that his familiarity with the genre would allow him to develop it "almost while sleeping." He announced that Physint will be an action-spy game blending video game and cinematic elements through realistic action sequences, rich storytelling, and stealth gameplay. Currently in the concept phase, critics see Physint as a return to Kojima's roots, updated with modern technology.

Kojima's New Spy Game Physint: Fusing Video Games and Cinema with Groundbreaking Integration

Kojima hinted that Physint will inherit the DNA of Metal Gear, while also emphasizing his desire to subvert genre conventions. "Regarding Physint, as it's a spy game, I could practically do it while sleeping," Kojima quipped, using the example of a soldier infiltrating, encountering resistance, and eliminating enemies as a scenario that is "fun and easy to do." He aims to bring video games and cinema closer together in Physint, introducing new mechanics to achieve unprecedented integration. To that end, he plans to involve both film actors and film crew members in the game's production, and expressed his curiosity about how this collaboration with professionals outside traditional game development will unfold. Kojima also observed that the speed of global change means that themes he intends to explore in Physint could become reality before the game is finished. Described as a new IP and a "next-generation action and espionage game," Physint is projected to require five to six years to complete and is expected to launch on the Playstation 6. Through these projects, Kojima seeks to innovate and explore new frontiers in interactive entertainment.
