League of Legends Unveils Transformative Season 1 Changes for 2026
League of Legends has revealed its plans for the upcoming season, with significant changes expected in 2026. As this year concludes, Riot Games is providing a preview of what's in store, including gameplay adjustments, ranked mode shakeups, and new items.
Demacia's Glory Days Showcase in Season 1 Redesign (League of Legends)
Demacia will be the central theme of the next season, showcasing its signature white and blue aesthetic across the redesigned map. Iconic champions such as Garen, Lux, and Galio will be featured, along with other characters sporting Demacian-themed gear. The season will focus on an older version of Demacia, highlighting its glory days.
League of Legends Refreshes Gameplay with Faelights, Early Minion Spawn, and Tower Reworks (2026)
Several gameplay adjustments are planned for 2026. While not as extensive as previous years, these changes will affect match timings and map dynamics. The Atakhan, its roses, and associated bonuses will be replaced by Faelights, which are special locations that grant bonuses to marked targets. Minions will also appear earlier, advancing the start of the action by 35 seconds and intensifying the early game, which will impact early ganks and invades. Tower mechanics are also being reworked. The plates on Tier 1 towers will remain past the 14-minute mark. Tier 2 and 3 towers will distribute gold evenly across three plates upon destruction, rather than all at once. Additionally, towers will gain explosive crystals that deal significant damage when attacked, functioning similarly to a simplified Demolition rune. Over a dozen new items will be introduced for all roles. The Snowbow will offer damage and increased critical hit chance, with bonus damage scaling based on the distance to the target. The Superbell will cater to mana-dependent support champions, providing a substantial mana boost and a healing/shielding effect tied to maximum mana.
New Season in League of Legends Brings Role-Based Quests and Reworked Quest Systems
A key addition this season is role-based quests for Top, Mid, and Bot players, similar to the existing systems for Junglers and Supports. These quests will offer various bonuses based on in-game actions, such as lane control or objective assistance. Riot Games also plans to adjust the existing Jungler and Support quests. Specifically, Top laners will receive increased experience and a higher level cap, along with new teleportation spell upgrades. Mid laners will start with free Level 3 boots and benefit from quicker recalls. Bot laners will earn more gold and gain an additional item slot. Junglers will experience a buff to the Smite spell, increased gold from jungle camps, faster experience gain in the jungle, and faster movement within the jungle. Supports will see reduced ward costs, increased gold income, and an extra slot for ward placement.
ZQSD Movement Controls Debut in League of Legends on December 2nd - A Fresh Approach for Beginners
ZQSD movement controls are scheduled to arrive in League of Legends on December 2nd around 2 PM. The rollout will begin in Normal mode before expanding to Ranked play. This new control scheme offers a potentially easier entry point to the game, and could attract new players unfamiliar with the traditional mouse-driven movement.
New Matchmaking Structure and Swift Mode Adjustments in League of Legends Season 1, 2026
The first season of next year will introduce notable changes to matchmaking. The solo/duo and flex MMR will be combined to ensure flex games more accurately reflect player skill. Swift Mode will be adjusted with faster champion selection, the removal of teammate pre-bans, and autofill modifications, including a League Point bonus for playing with autofill enabled, along with loss protection if a grade of C or higher is maintained. With these changes on the horizon, Season 1 of League of Legends in 2026 promises to deliver a dynamic and engaging experience for players.
